Drawing the line: how role boundary buffers the pathway from perfectionism to burnout via telepressure and work-to-life conflict
研究完美主义如何通过远程工作压力和工作生活冲突导致倦怠,发现清晰的角色边界能有效缓冲这一路径,对管理者和员工有实践启示。
This study explores the relationship between perfectionism and burnout, emphasizing the sequential mediating roles of workplace telepressure and work-to-life conflict, as well as the moderating effect of role boundary. Although earlier studies have examined the perfectionism – burnout link, they often analysed work and life domains in isolation. Yet, growing reliance on information and communication technologies (ICT) increasingly blurs these boundaries, complicating the relationship. Integrating boundary and resource theories, this study investigates when and how perfectionism predicts burnout. A three-wave survey of 237 employees empirically tested the proposed framework. Results show that weak role boundaries amplify burnout through the sequential mediation of workplace telepressure and work-to-life conflict. Conversely, strong boundaries shield perfectionists from burnout, underscoring the value of effective boundary management.
