Abstract

Purpose This study systematically explored the senior-friendly transformation (SFT) requirements of older mobile health (mHealth) app users. It analyzes ways to improve user experience and service quality through optimized design, addressing the increasing demand for digital health solutions amid global aging. Design/methodology/approach This study adopted a mixed-methods approach, integrating a literature review with semi-structured interviews to establish an SFT model based on a five-factor user experience framework. The Kano model and better–worse index were subsequently applied to rank user requirements. Findings The study identified 28 requirement elements categorized into four dimensions: must-be (M), one-dimensional (O), attractive (A) and indifferent (I). Results suggest that mHealth app developers should prioritize information security, enhance interface and aesthetic design and refine multichannel requirement feedback mechanisms by systematically managing these requirements. Originality/value Few studies have addressed SFT in online medical-type mHealth apps. To address this gap, this study developed an analytical framework that combines qualitative and quantitative techniques to systematically identify and rank SFT requirements. The findings provide practical recommendations and theoretical insights for developing mHealth app development in the context of global aging. Highlight
