A review: location of charging and/or battery swapping stations for electrical vehicles

In light of the global implementation of low-carbon emission policies, the existing infrastructure of single charging or swapping services is striving to keep pace with the growing demands from electric vehicles (EVs). Notably, charging stations and battery swapping stations are not mutually exclusive and can even coexist at the same site. This paper, therefore, reviews the location challenges for both charging and battery swapping facilities and introduces the concept of integrated EV charging and/or battery swapping stations. We offer an in-depth analysis of the characteristics of various EV electric replenishment stations and delves into the complexities of this decision-making process, examining it through the lens of both strategic and operational decisions. This review not only encapsulates the current research landscape, but also provides insightful guidance and identifies promising research pathways to advance the development of the EV infrastructure.
