Exploring the impacts of employee-based blockchain adoption on supply chain finance and operational performance

Although researchers and practitioners have increasingly recognised the importance of blockchain technology in enhancing supply chain finance (SCF) practices, empirical research examining the impacts of blockchain adoption on SCF and operational performance remains limited. Therefore, this study aims to develop a theoretical framework that explores the impact of employee-based blockchain adoption (EBA) on SCF collaboration and operational performance. Survey data gathered from manufacturing companies in China were used to empirically test the proposed model. The empirical findings indicate a significant effect of EBA on the three dimensions of SCF collaboration, and indicate that SCF collaboration with customers and suppliers fully mediate the effect of intra-SCF collaboration on operational performance. The findings provide valuable practical guidance for managers seeking to develop effective strategies for adopting blockchain technology to implement SCF practices and optimise working capital in today’s digital and uncertain business environment.
