Abstract

This article posits a theory of transitional bricolage using the marginalization of women entrepreneurs in home-based enterprises as an empirical platform. It offers a conceptualization of entrepreneurial transition as temporal flows of positional advancement (transitioning) to a transitioned post-bricolage state. Insight is offered into how women entrepreneurs transition from matters of survival to achieving greater sufficiency for their families through entrepreneurship. Moreover, it exposes how women entrepreneurs creatively learn to work around constraining factors in society relating to underpinning gender, cultural, and religious marginalization to achieve positional advancement. Findings provide support for bricolage as a mechanism to achieve economic advancement, even where social marginalization remains elusive.
