The role of FDI-focused business and technology parks in promoting local employment growth
利用爱尔兰1986-2016年面板数据,研究发现以外商直接投资为重点的商业和技术园区使周边地区年就业增长率提高0.7%,且该效应在城市和高失业地区更强。
This paper examines whether the establishment of foreign direct investment (FDI) focused business and technology parks (BTPs) enhances local employment and examines whether this policy strategy is conditioned by BTP heterogeneity. Using detailed Irish panel data (1986–2016) and a propensity score matching with difference-in-difference (PSM-DiD) method, the analysis shows that electoral divisions in close proximity to BTPs experience 0.7% higher annual employment growth rates. This effect is stronger in urban areas and in electoral divisions with higher initial unemployment. The degree of sectoral concentration matters, where BTPs with a higher proportion of pharmaceutical and information and communication technology firms are associated with higher employment growth.
