Editorial: Greetings from the new Editor-in-Chief
新任主编回顾期刊发展,介绍新增的简报和年度特邀专刊投稿类型,并鼓励提出新颖研究问题、支持青年学者。
It is a genuine honor to step into the role of Editor-in-Chief at the Journal of Managerial Psychology. Having served on the editorial team since 2021, I am excited to take on this new challenge. I am especially grateful to my predecessor, Carrie Bulger, whose leadership, along with the dedication of our full editorial team, has positioned the journal for an exceptionally bright future. The journal continues to experience meaningful growth. Submissions have increased steadily, with a record number of new submissions each year. Our focus remains on providing an expedient review process while preserving our longstanding commitment to providing authors with constructive and developmental feedback, regardless of the outcome. As such, we are expanding our editorial team to support our ability to handle the increasing number of submissions. This includes launching an early-career editorial review board, which provides valuable opportunities for pre-tenure scholars while supporting a constructive and timely review experience for authors. We will also be increasing our article output, an increase made possible by the high number of quality studies that authors are choosing to send to the Journal of Managerial Psychology. We are also pleased to introduce two new submission types: the brief report and the annual invited special issue. As submissions have increased, we frequently encounter high-quality manuscripts that, while methodologically strong, offer contributions that do not fit well with our feature article format. These studies are important to building cumulative knowledge through replicating, extending or challenging existing findings, as well as providing a platform for preliminary, exploratory or null results. The brief report provides an outlet for this work in a concise, 3,000–4,000-word format. Our new annual special issue is another exciting addition. Each year, we will invite leading scholars who are conducting innovative research in a specific domain to contribute integrative and thought-provoking work. Our goal is to spark new ideas, stimulate scholarly activity and shape research agendas. Before closing, I would like to share two additional aspirations I have for my time as Editor-in-Chief. First, I hope to see more submissions asking fresh and meaningful research questions, regardless of methodological sophistication. Too often, statistical complexity is the primary driver of manuscript development. Yet among the many manuscripts I have managed in my 4 years as an associate editor, the most memorable have tended not to use complex statistical designs, and some did not use statistical designs at all. These manuscripts stood out because they addressed interesting and important issues not yet understood.Second, I want to extend a special invitation to developing scholars. We have engaged with many of you at the peer reviewing workshops our editorial team has delivered at conferences, both to promote developmental reviewing and build efficacy in a skillset on which most graduate programs do not offer formal training. Because early experiences with peer review can profoundly shape one's relationship with scholarship, we see a valuable opportunity to further support developing scholars. Over time, we hope to introduce initiatives such as designating student first-authorship in our submission system and possibly publishing special issues of student-led research.I am truly excited to serve as Editor-in-Chief. I am humbled to step into this role following Carrie's outstanding leadership, and I consider myself lucky to continue working alongside our excellent editorial team. Thank you for your continued engagement with the Journal of Managerial Psychology, and I look forward to the future!
